The project completed the pre-operating activities and was launched last December 17, 2002 at Calinan gym. It has established a Materials Recovery Facility and conducted various capability building activities.

Significance of the Project:

Solid Waste Management had been a big problem for barangays especially those with a growing number of population. Hence, Calinan was chosen to be the pilot area for this project considering its increasing population and urbanization. This will serve as demonstration site for other barangays who will undertake waste management.

The Calinan Solid Waste Management Project will initially address the issue on solid waste in the city particularly in Calinan Poblacion, which has a great problem in this aspect.

Further, the implementation of the project will aid the community on proper waste management in order to reduce the volume of waste residual for final disposal. This project also aimed to attain the following: establish one (1) functional Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), which is mandated by R.A. 9003 or known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. Also, a targeted number of households which is 10% of the total population (3,421) will adopt the project and practice proper waste management and so with 3 out of 6 schools and the public market.
