Significance of the Project
The project hopes to establish a livelihood
program for the coastal communities along the Talomo Bay area
and broaden the community awareness pertaining to environmental
conservation and protection.
The establishment of a payao is considered
an aggregating device for fish sanctuary and a place for shielding
various marine species. It also serves as a natural fish habitat
and prevents migration in times of spawning and breeding period.
Through the installation of payao in the project area, fish
catch will increase by three times.
On the other hand, the introduction of smoked
fish technology as a livelihood component of the project shall
provide additional income to the women-beneficiaries and spouses.
Smoking the fish increases its market value, prolongs its
shelf life and improves its flavor.
