 PROJECTS
One of the IP beneficiaries of the Swine Raising Project

  1. forty four (44) of the IP’s farmer beneficiaries participants of the swine project practiced improved animal husbandry like health management, nutrition and breeding;

  2. helped the 44 IP’s farmer beneficiaries on its first year of implementation establish an effective community-based and community-managed animal husbandry extension system;

  3. improved the four (4) IP’s Organized groups access to cost effective and adaptable feedstuffs for hogs;

  4. established a one (1) favorable model of a marketing system which can be managed by the local IP’s farmer groups;

  5. increased the hog population of the beneficiaries from 2/pigs per farmer to 5 to 10 pigs/farmer while perhaps remaining backyard-based; and

  6. established farmer’s federated groups linkage with at least two (2) existing and potential institutional buyers and processors.

Significance of the Project:

The project will assist the marginal members of the IP’s community living under the jurisdiction of Talomo and Lipadas Watershed areas wherein majority of them derived their income solely from farming.

Sustainability and maintenance considerations will basically be measured on the dispersal scheme to be employed by the associations or cooperatives involved in the implementation of the project.

Appropriate technologies on swine management will be promoted in support to the upland farmers venturing into hog raising as well as the transfer of technology and skills through series of training and field tour.

Provision of upgraded breeds for backyard-type of swine will be purposely dispersed for the project to increase swine numbers and improved their bloodlines for better productivity aside from the fact that upgraded breeds were noted as efficient in feed conversion and adaptable to upland and lowland conditions.

The project shall be able to promote a semi-commercialized and sustainable swine raising enterprise in the upland and lowland engaging a diversified backyard livestock farming.
