solid wastes. Barangay Poblacion, Toril in Davao City was chosen as a pilot site for the project. PCEEM funded the Social Preparation Phase which includes specific activities geared towards preparing the community for active involvement and participation in the Solid Waste Management Project.

The project has institutionalized the solid waste management concept that can be replicated in other barangays. It is now being operated as an “enterprise cooperative” that addresses the waste disposal concern of Toril Poblacion and at the same time provides a continuing employment and income to the low skilled sectors of the community.

The implementation of the solid waste management project prepared business establishments, households, academe and peoples organization on the eventual operation of the sanitary landfill where the prior segregation of solid waste is one of the features of its operation.

Significance of the Project

The DSWMP aims to develop a waste exchange and recovery program that is economically and financially viable. The project's key success is anchored on the economic benefits derived in sorting and segregating the solid waste starting from the households up to the materials recovery center. As a business enterprise, it shall provide continuing employment to the residents of barangay.
